There are much better and safer ways to increase the humidity for breeding purposes, a simple spray with a plant mister twice a day would be much more suitable and safer for your turtle's health, by keeping the lid on the humidity levels can get much to high, sometimes it not worth taking the risk, i suppose its upto you, but definately worth thinking about. Increasing the basking / land area using the same method as you have used will not decrease swimming area as its above the the water. It appears your tank is in your lounge and that's probably the reason you have the lid on your tank (asthetic reasons).

There are way's to try and make your tank a little more pleasing on the eye and having a completly open top, this is one of my set up's, not everybody's cup of tea but ticks all the boxes.

Just read your post about the vent's in the back, dont the jewel lids have large feeding hatches across the top that can be removed, that would also help alot, it is a very nice tank
