As I said I'm 6 to 8 years away from breeding so it's not as issue personally but put simply keep females away from males has to be the simplest way forward. I know absolutely nothing about sterilising tortoises but I assume it could be done quite easily. |

By choice I wouldn't have got a male but he is here and I love him to bits - he loves being with the girls and they stay together most of the time - I would hate to separate him - sterilising seems a bit drastic as does destroying fertile eggs so in the words of Tony Soprano " what are you gonna do ?"

in that situation anne i agree 100% with not incubating the eggs. many people have torts but dont have the time/patience/ money to incubate, feed and raise hatchlings. and leos can be pretty hefty breeders! my biggest lays 12 eggs in a clutch, 3 times a year. at least. if they were all incubated, thats maybe 25-30 hatcling torts. where the heck would i put them!

the army used to give soldiers bromide to keep 'urges' at bay .......... not sure if it would work with torts though
