Default Tortoise breeders in Scotland?

Hi there I am new to the forums

I have recently been thinking about getting a tortoise as a pet. I have always liked them and got thinking about them again after reading about them on another forum. I was amazed to see how easy it can be to get a tortoise online but seem to think this isn’t the best way. I have searched around on the net but cant find any home breeders based in Scotland. Can anyone point me in the direction of reliable breeder in Scotland, failing that give me advice on how to get one.

I know nothing about looking after a tortoise so advice on what type and what is required to keep them healthy would also be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dez.

In addition to this i live in a flat at the moment. From what i read its best to have tortoises outside and let them get proper sunshine etc. I would be able to let ,mine out on nice days as there is plenty of grass round my area but not all the time. I was thinking of building a table top setup near the window which would hopefully alolow a good amount of sunshine in.

Can anyone advise me on this, and what would be a good species to think about getting.

maybe a herman or horsfield, horsfields dig and like deep substrate hermans dont, if ur making a table top near the window you will need the window open for the rays to come in or you will need a uv tube/what ever source of uv ur using,

Ok

It was a herman i was considering. So the idea of keeping it near the window isnt a problem. Im just worried about later oin in life, at what point would I need to start worrying about a bigger housing for the tortoise?

I can make an old desk into a table top solution but how long would that last?

And what would be the next stage in the indoor housing setup?

How often would i need to let the btortoise roam about outside in the grass?

Default tortoise

hi there

tortoise are amazing and to say we stock spur thighed and horsefeilds at the moment but will have hermans in very soon again. all are around 2 years only and of the best of health. just to note we also are one of the only stockists in Scotland of the tortoise table, this is one of our best sellers and you can use this with the exo terra solar glo 125w lamp as this provides heat and the uv in one bulb. hope this helps.

the tortoise table etc can be seen from our website

Hi, where about in Scotland are you?

I live in the north east of Scotland and know of a reptile shop that doesn't sell tortoises but will contact breeders and see if they have any torts for sell then let you know so you can contact them and visit etc.
