hi i keep and breed both north african spurthighed and hermans tortoise i prefer to use combi lamps like the powersun or the megaray ,i understand how expensive it is to set up another unit and fully understand why people are tempted to forgo quarantine when adding another tortoise to their collection .if i could suggets perhaps you try what i use for my hatchlings it is a divided table then when quarantine is over you can remove the division giving them twice the space and of course the lamp is still the right size for the table/unit.please check the country of origin on your tortoises certificate to ensure it is uk bred before adding another from a breeder.shared lamps really do keep cost's down .

i use a megaray self ballasted uvb flood lamp and it is fitted in a clamp lamp which i have suspended overhead i understand they are less prone to damage and work more efficiently if they point straight downwards.my 100w is 12" above the tortoises.i also use powersun and i am very pleased with them but as the megaray is reputed to have a better uv output i will replace them with those at the end of their life.all my present lighting has come from Kimbo's i find the prices competitive and the delivery excellent.
