It looks as if the scutes, especially the marginals, are beginning to lift.

If they can't bask in natural sunlight then it'll have to be artificial, what lighting do you have?

I found that since switching from flourescent UVBs to Mercury Vapour lamps a couple of years ago my turts shed more easily, vitamin D in their diet also helps, if you can get wheatgerm koi pellets they are a rich source and most turts seem to love them.

One thing you can do to prevent mineral deposits is to stop using tapwater, I only use clean rainwater in mine now.

One of the less appreciated benefits of living in the UK!

The thing is to collect it when it rains so it's fresh and clean, I usually have at least a couple of 5 gallon containers ready for use, stored in a cool dark cupboard so the water doesn't go green with algae.

I have a very large plastic tank underneath my veranda which collects water off the roof for watering the garden, in the downpipe from the roof I've fitted a diverter, when it's been raining for a while (so that dirt off the roof has been washed away) I switch the flow and fill up my containers.

If one is male and one is female, then yes they could mate. It's not like snakes where you get hets and such, the offspring would look like a cross between the two and they're very common. I personally wouldn't pay any money for such a turtle, as there are hundreds in rescues all over the country. I suppose some shops might give you a couple of quid (literally) a piece. If you want to know the financial value of turtles on here, look through the classifieds at all the people having to bump their ads time after time and eventually offer the turtles as free to a good home.

As James says sliders are the most common turts in the UK, and the value of any hatchlings would be no more than a few pounds at most, people are always trying to rehome adults and it's easy enough to get them for free.
