My little tort, commonly known now as Edison at home seems only to eat every other day and will not entertain grape vine leaf nor Hibisus leave. Is this enough or should he really be eating everyday. He weighs 28grams and although is not loosing wieght he is also not gaining any.

I have noticed that 2 of my tortoises (the healthy ones) have recently reduced their food intake. Furthermore, my neighbours TGG is eating very little. I suspect this has something to do with the dreary summer we've had - maybe they are starting hibernation wind down a bit early??????

As a reptile... the tortoise is totally dependent on its environment to maintain a good metabolism. If it gets is allowed to get cool the metabolism slows down... it is less active... needs less food because it slows down...
Do you have a good background temperature and a good basking site... 70 to 100F... it does not matter what kind of tortoise you have with this range. Quote:

The daytime temperatures are currently 28º during the day and 17º at night.
At the weekend he was outside (semi shade) and although he was more lively he didnt eat anymore than usual. Phtotos of him are on my profile as I am not sure what type he is. All I know is that he came from Morroco. |
