Default Advice Please

Hey all.....
I'm in the process of researching and planning for a new project. Id like to keep 2 tortoises. Initially I will be buying/ making a tortoise table approx 4ft x 3ft. Essentially I would appreciate any advice, and also if anyone is able to point me in the right direction of places to buy tortoises around sussex.
Thanks in advance.

She has Marginateds available still, they are a lovely tortoise. Very pretty shells.

I can pm you her number if you would like it.

Would they be a good tortoise to start with? I was looking at the slightly larger species, ie. Leopards. What are the key things I'd need to have within my tortoise table?

Marginateds are a lovely tortoise and I would say they are probably easier to keep than Leopards.

For your tortoise table you would need a Heat lamp and uv light, you can get these as a combined lamp now which are extremely good. They are called Megarays and you can get them at kimbos reptile world.

Im not sure what size you would want though as I havent started using one myself.

You would need to decide what type of substrate you would like to use.

The choices are; Sand/soil mix, Chipsie wood chips, Aspen the list is endless really.

You would need a hide, water dish, feeding dish or piece of slate - again you can get them at kimbos reptile world. The slate you can pick up at garden centres.

Hope this all helps.

This is Freddie and Charlie my two marginateds.

Your very welcome.

They get to about 14 inches in length and can be about 5kg in weight.

I do know that the breeder I go too has a unsexed pair which are probably about the same size as the biggest one in my photo. They are last years hatchlings but she does have some from this year as well.

Thats a nice size.... About the size I'd like them to get.
Does it make any difference whether I bought a 'pair' or just 2? If they both turn out to be same sex is fighting an issue?
Could i be really cheeky and ask you the price?

This is how I keep mine when they are indoors. They also have a pen outside which is well planted with various edible plants.

Outside

They will be moving into a greenhouse with pen attached as soon as I have it finished. This pic was taken a while ago, the plants have now grown like crazy.

There can be issues with having two of the same sex but thats not really a problem for a good few years when they reach breeding age.

Some say that two of the same sex are better as a pair on there own can mean that the male will pester the female. I have no idea what mine all are but I really dont mind. If I have a problem with them later on I will just divide them up.

I will pm you about the price.
