T-rex and megaray are NOT the same, the megaray is the most highly recommended bulb around!

Darren, who runs kimbos, is a respected tortoise keeper himself and will be able to advise you as to the best one to choose for your tortoise's set up.

You wont be disappointed with the megaray and neither will the tortoise!

Hi everyone,

I am new here. I am buying a tortoise for my girlfriend for her birthday in a couple of weeks. She has been doing the TT course but I want this to be a surprise so I am having to do the research myself!

So far I have got a Hermanns ready to pick up on her birthday and have roped my parents into helping build a tortoise table, based on this guide on the TT website (Tortoise Trust Web - Building a Tortoise Table).

But, I am struggling to decide on th best lighting solution. I wil definitely go with UV/Heat (Megaray, Exo Terra or Powersun) but am not sure how to fix it in place. Do I go for a wire frame or a dome reflector? More importantly how do I fix that? I have seen the clamp lamp reflectors but I am assuming they just clamp onto the side wall. Thing is, I don't know if the walls in this table design would be up to it and I want it to be as secure as it can. Does this mean I have to buy a lamp stand instead? How do I know what wattage to get?

So much to decide and so many questions! Would really appreciate the guidance.

Thanks

James
