Default Adopt a turtle anyone?

Hi thought i was doing right thing rescuing these guys from not very good conditions when i saw them. However am now struggling a little o get water quality right and contrary to what i was told my tank not big enough and they dont like being together. PLEASE NO CONDESCENDING COMMENTS trying my best to do right thing in good faith - do love turts and trying hard to sort these guys out (hefty vets bill to prove that so far). Be good if people could let me know exact species and even better if someone could provide a good home. Two have got prob on noses but am treating and do seem to be making gradual improvement.
ALL geniune help or advice gladly recieved.
Cheers
Jon

I think your turtles belong to the Apalone species (also known as American soft-shelled turtles), I'd be very careful if it was an Apalone -ferox specially, or any other sub species except Apalone spinifera), as they're known to be extremely agressive. Hope I have helped you. In the forum of the Spanish association I belong to they say it's better to have every single Apalone turtle in a different aquarium, and pick them up with gardening gloves -this isn't gonna help u much to find an owner is it?
Sorry anyway

I'm no expert on softies but I agree, these do look very much like one of the North American species, possibly the Eastern Spiny Softshell Apalone spinifera spinifera?

If you have a female, choose her. They are less agressive and calmer. If not (for your security), the less agressive one. Good luck with the adoptions!

Right so is there an easy way to tell sex (there is at least one female as they laid eggs a couple of weeks ago!).
