Default Hay/Straw & questions :D

Hi, I was wondering if tortoises can have Hay/Straw
and:
  • Can tortoises have Brocolli?
  • Can tortoises have Pepper?
  • And is it ok for you to use normal light bulbs (like the one i lights lol) for your tortoise enclosure?
  • And can you use johnson baby summit to wash your tortoise in?
Not planning on using normal light bulds like the ones in our lights lol or the things on the list but just wondering

LOL I was in the vets today and there was someone else there with a big old SHINEY tort. I had to ask the owner how come the tort was shiney and she explained that they used to use olive oil but noow days they use baby oil with much better result!!!!

Thankfully the vet nurse was close by and she was able to explain that niether needed to be or should be used on the poor old tort. The owner was really surprised but, was happy enough o believe what the nurse said. Bless the nurse she even offered to have a ao at cleaning her off!:bas h:

  • Can tortoises have Brocolli? yes, but u have to weigh up the positives against the negatives, i believe this effects the calcium intake of the tort ????
  • Can tortoises have Pepper? yes, it is relatively high in fibre, but low in calcium
  • And is it ok for you to use normal light bulbs (like the one i lights lol) for your tortoise enclosure? yes, this is what i have always used.
  • And can you use johnson baby summit to wash your tortoise in?no, not recommended,

  • Can tortoises have Brocolli?NO high in oxalic acid as with most brassica's
  • Can tortoises have Pepper?NO poor calcium/phosphorous ratio not reccommended particularly with young animals
  • And is it ok for you to use normal light bulbs (like the one i lights lol) for your tortoise enclosure?with med tortoises i prefer to use a uvb heat and light unit like a megaray you will see better appetite and activity than with conventional set ups
  • And can you use johnson baby summit to wash your tortoise in?just plain water is best on a regular basis.
