Default Snappers in my house and yard.

I keep snapping turtles in my yard in ponds, both alligator snappers and common snappers. for around 4 months out of the year they are outside.

This is the time of year when I bring them inside. perfect time for some pics, heres some small commons.

These are not a huggie cuddley type of pet, a common snapper can live up to 47 years in captivity and can grow to be up to 50 cm and weight up to 16 kg. large specimins are not good pets for the average person.

Common snappers have a billigerent disposition out of the water and will bite with their very powerful jaws.

Snappers kissing.

Have never bred a turtle and have no dreams whatsoever to do that.

I do like raising up hatchlings all the time tho.

Cool, just wondered with them being the same age and ever so cute! Wonder how many people buy them as they are so cute them release them when so large and willing to take your fingers off?

Yes I have read a few stories like such... people are so irresponsible at times.

Last year I helped to rehome a small Cumberland Slider, the lady I got it from was getting desperate to find a new home, she asked the shop they got it from if they would take it back but they wouldn't.
What they did recommend was that she dump it in the local lake "...but don't tell anyone we told you that!"
With shops actually advising people to do this it's hardly surprising so many do get dumped, throw into the mix some people too stupid to look after any kind of pet, and it's a wonder every waterway in the country isn't completely overrun.
