I know you keep Horsfields but I think you'd still enjoy this one:

Hermann's Tortoise by Holger Vetter

The very best tort book I've read so far. Lance Jepson's I didn't find quite so informative.

I'm reading Lonesome George by Henry Nicholls at the moment and really enjoying that too... it's as much about the Galapagos and conservation as the torts.

I have a whole book case full now of tort, snake and gecko books.

Most of my research is based around Horsfields, but as they come under the heading of Testudo I have also learnt a lot about the other species within this range.

Hermanns were going to be our first choice of torts but when we saw the 'attitude' of Horsfields we found we preffered them, even though they are slightly more aggressive and a bit 'mad', I suppose it is true that animals are like their owners, or vice versa, I have been accused of being a bit mad

I agree that Lance Jepson wasn't as in depth as other things I have read.

My research is also including Bearded Dragons, mine is about 5 months old, and Rex Rabbits (we have two of them)

Eds new book is pretty good too. well worth the price tag and i didnt find it at all condescending or uppity. alot more in depth than the typical petshop book and covers things like geographical range and health care and common health problems.

I read that one during my trip to the Galapagos. Seemed apt! Good read, but with some very strange snippets of info too.

Ali - I havent got a copy of Ed's new book yet. Bit behind on that one. Good read, eh?

incrisis - Carapace Press is Andy Highfields of the Tortoise Trust commercial book (video/dvd) publishing company, with several books that at various times have been highly regarded.
