Default Horatio

Horatio sleeps in my new parlous at night. Well, he comes indoors in the afternoons and spends the time walking about his room. I catch him sometimes watching me as I watch telly. He seems fascinated by me. Of course I talk to him and invite him over for a little massage. Sometimes he comes, sometimes he doesn't. In the morning, he wanders about while I drink my coffee, eat my toast and wait for the painkillers to kick in and the stiffness to loosten a bit before I go outside to let the chickens out and see to the goats. This morning, it was fine and sunny so I opened the living room window. It's a south facing room and the sun was shining in and the warm breeze came through the window. Horatio ain't daft. He could obviously smell the nice weather outside and, although he knows that the door to the room, which is on the opposite wall, leads outside to his garden, he was frantically trying to climb the wall beneath the window to get outside. I gave in after a minute and stiffly got to my feet and took him outside to his garden where I left him chomping on a sow thistle.
He is a very demanding tortoise sometimes and treats me like a servant. At least my old Horatio would say "thanks" when I did something for him. This one? Nothing just a supercilious sneer on his face.

I am indeed happy Helen. It just feels 'right' somehow to be treated like a doormat by a wrinkled grumpy old chap.

I took a couple when he arrived. He lives in the same garden as the previous one lived and I know there are pics of that on the forum somewhere. When I get a spare second I'll post them again, and when he isn't out there, he is either in my posh new parlour, or has the run of the upstairs.
Must take some more when I get time.

Back to the tortoises .... Glad Horatio has got you trained already, didn't take him long to wrap you round his little scaley leg!

Sounds like you are getting well acquainted - it doesn't take them long to know they are loved !!!! it was so lovely to read that he was going to have you as his new "mummy".

Well he and I had a bit of a disagreement this afternoon.
I went and fetched him indoors about an hour ago as he likes to watch the Rikki Lake show.
I read a book while he watched. All of a sudden he started moving. He went into the fireplace (not used) and started bumping against an old antique Victorian vase I have standing in one corner.
I said to him "Horatio, what are you doing" and he told me he hated the ugly thing and wanted it out of his sight as he couldn't concentrate on Rikki Lake with it in his line of sight.
I told him to leave it be as I liked it there, whereupon he started to bump against it hard in an effort to get it to topple over and smash on the tiled floor. I ended up having to move it and put it up on the windowsill. I did try to put it on a little side table next to the fireplace but the little horror started to bump the table and the vase was rocking. I think I'm going to have to stop him watching telly as I believe he gets too into programmes and now thinks that he is Lawrence Lewellyn-Bowen. If he startes to strip my nice wallpaper off the walls , we will be having words!
