I wouldn't want to give any fruit on a regular basis but I'm sure a little bit once in a blue moon won't do any harm, the harm comes when the little bit becomes a regular thing or is included as part of the diet, in the wild a tort might only find a bit of fruit once a year as I don't think the fruit trees/plants bear fruit that often, doesn't it usually depend on whether theres any rain. The wild torts have to be oputunist feeders as their diet probably lacks in most things for most of the year, torts over here don't lack in anything so extras must only ever be treats.

Nasturtiums are delicious! Ours aren't that bothered with them so I just stick em in a salad.

To be honest I am not sure hwether this thread is a wind up......

Hermanns/horsfields and gracae DO NOT EAT FRUIT, nor do they eat sweetcorn..

Please take some time to look at the Tortoise Trust website or the Tlady website and look around this forum and Shelled Warriors for lists of acceptable foods.

Maybe torts do find fruits in the wild...but it is in no way part of their staple diet...it can upset their gut flora and lead to health problems..

My 2 like the odd bit of cucumber (again, for hydration and not often) but they love a bit of strawberry or cherry tomato as a rare treat. I usually scoop out the middles of tomato to get rid of the seeds. Seeds in things freak me out a bit anyway...I never eat seeds out of a pepper! I don;t even let one get in when I'm making pasta sauce or anything

It's okay, we know this. That's why we only occasionally give such things as a treat. I feed mine 'treats' less than once a month. And it's a little bit, like 1/2 a strawberry between them both, or a small cherry tomato between them both.

I don't think many on this forum are feeding their torts 'bad' things often.

Also, I know it's important to care for our exotic animals properly, but at the same time, chocolate, crisps, white bread, and millions of other things are not good for our bodies, but it doesn't kill us if we have something less than ideal every day! And, at the risk of making myself unpopular, many people feed their children all the wrong things!

Torts need to live a little too

Good Gawd woman I thought you said curry then

I dont give mine fruit - mine have weeds weeds and more weeds and one slice of cucumber a week and a slice of tomatoe every fortnight - I scoop out the seeds cos I didnt want tomatoes growing in their tummies.

One of their favourites is lavatera flowers - they make hats out of them, new clothes, eat them, make lavatera aeorplanes and everything - mind you mine tortoises are exceptionally clever like me

have to say I was a bit agog at the Piglet comment above of I dont let him have it often cos I know its bad for him - sorry but if something is 'bad' for you its bad for you for a reason and they shouldnt have it
