Default Got My New Tort!!

HELLO

Just thought i'd give you all an update, got my 2nd redfoot sunday he/she is a beaut..started to give both torts a more balanced diet than the advice given by my petshop, built a great outside pen for them that they love when the suns out...watched(shelly) our eldest tort hunt down a garden worm which was totally amazing.couple of issues though. The new tort hasn't been to the loo yet also not drinking,as for food..a little nibble here and there...but it's very active stomping round etc shellys had a few pecks at it's shell and rocky had a good go back. Thanks again katie and sarah for all your advise..anything I should be doing to help the new tort to settle in more?????

are you quarantining the tortoise?

I made the mistake of not doing with mine as i didn't know better, and both ended up having several trips to the vets.

Just trynna save u some money

it could simply be a case of settling into his new environment. Give him daily baths to keep him hydrated as he isn't drinking and eating to much. It also encourages tortoises to go to the toilet.

Make sure ur sprinkling their food with limestone flour, for extra calcium, and nutrobal 3-4 times a week. to stop any growth deformities.

give him about a week or so to settle in, with the new bathing regime, and just see how he gets on.

If he isn't eating it's no cause for immediate concern as tortoises can go weeks and months without eating quite happily. it's the drinkin thats more of a worry, just make sure u keep him hydrated,n if still worried then take him to the vets and just explain ur concerns.

hope this may help a little

Katie

Oldham, just outside of manchester. moving to stockton on 25th tho!

too late to quarantine yeah, just keep a very close eye on both n check for any changes in ur original tort, as it's that ones behaviour ull probably know the most about, and notice if it changes drastically
