[quote=Loveridge-Smith;725511]Hi everyone!
We are both new to these forums and were wondering if we could get some help and advice. We brought two beautiful Leopard Tortoises on Friday. We have everything set up but are still getting used to life with tortoises. The youngest tortoise we have, who is two and a half years seems rather ill. We don't have much experience with Tortoises so everything may be fine. The older female who is three years old may just have a much livelier personality. The younger has not eaten, toileted and has mostly slept since we received him. He seems very dry, weak and his muscle reflex is slow. We have been bathing him, keeping him warm and trying to get him to eat. All he seems to want to do is sleep. There is minimal movement. We have both checked him over for any other signs of illness but could not find anything other than slight gunge in the corner of his eyes. Are we just being paranoid? Could it be a kidney disease? Do we need to give him time or seriously worry? All opinions and advice are much appreciated. Tamsin and Ellie x normally when you bathe, they will defeacicate, this is normal for tort, for the change in temperature and environment, i bathe mine every other day and they move their bowels,(leos need much water) its unusual that he isnt 'having a poo'. it is also a more hygenic way, rather than in the substrate where it can be hard to locate and cause disease if undetected and not removed, my tort's never 'poo' in their tortoise table,,, its is only ever , in their bath, which by the way, they love. . how are you bathing? I put about 2 inch of water (warm) in the bath, they will move about and after about 3 mins they will do their thing, often in the basking position (you know, legs spread out backwards, head low) it is also a bonding thing for you and him. leo's are very shuy and i can honestly say it took maybe 2 months for my Jazzy to "come out of his shell" (pardon the pun") what set up do u have, ?? tortoise table?? |
