As Katie said it's better to have a thin covering of seeds to get the most out of them, however if you need them quickly you can sow them more thickly... they will still grow. A thicker covering will mean that even when young you can use the seedlings as food. I planted mine about 2 weeks ago and already have quite thick vegetation at about 3 inches high. I also found they grow much quicker inside! Hope this helps

thanks for that, thats is the last thing i need to do for a perfect set up. I'm currently picking weeds from all my neighbours gardens, they think it just gret!!! LOL I have had Jaz for 4 weeks, he is now in a lovely tortoise table, with hemp, 50/50 playsand and john innes, lights are perfect, and he is so happy. My lovebird loves it too, she lands in the table and Jaz makes a beeline for her, i thought he would go in his shell, but the exact opposite, and i have some fab photos of them kissing!!! I was missold a viv and have spent a fortune. Its a expensive business, eh, but so so worth it.

I have 8 trays and about 12 packets of seeds , shall i plant up the whole 8 trays, for constant supply? Do i put only 1 type in per tray, or maybe half a tray on type, and the other half another type? Thanks for advice on indoor growing, I will put them in my porch, it gets super warm in there. I have an 18month old leopard, and he doesnt stop eating, i have never seen him drink anything yet, is this because i bathe him every other day?

8 trays seems like alot to me but I know those leos eat like horses. Yours should be quite small though at 18 months so I would personally go for three or four trays (depending on the size of them of course). You can mix the seeds it makes no difference although if you seperate them and label your trays you could use them for I.D purposes when picking wild ones! What are your leos urates like? by that I mean consistency? Is it gritty or like raw egg? That will give you an idea as to whether he is hydrated or not. He may be drinking when your not looking!

he is the size of my hand maybe 4 and 1/2 inches wide,... that is,when he is doing his sunbathing thing , with legs and arms spread-eagled!!! i love it when he does that, i feel that he is happy! he looks so comfy in the play sand and soil,,,and it he seems so at ease, makes no attempt to hide when i approach now,. . but he did when, when he was in the viv before i got the t.table he was so nervouse, but, thats, the past now. all in the past, . i put many sleepless nights in, god, we animal people, what we like???!!! i feel deep down that like i'm getting to know him alot better. i kiss his shell, on a morning before a go to work and again when i get home, his head comes out.. don't know if thats a good sign or not?? but i feel we are bonding now, we have spent time in the garden, when its been sunny, just about 20 mins max. we havnt had any summer in the uk, its rubbish,,,, so dont feel he has experienced the most this month, my dad and his pal are planning to build an outdoor enclosure next year, so i will be able to get him a friend (but i think he loves me the most LOL) maybe next spring, its too late now. i dont see him drinking, but you know what, i'm measmerised by him,,, i was still up at 4 oc this morning watching him. i think he is healthy, despite the water concern, he is a changed little boy since i took him out of the viv and he has hemp and play sand/soil,, in fact he has been awake and busy all day today!!! i must admit i was very naive, i had a tortoise for 12 yrs when i was a little girl ,until someone stole him out of my grans garden (he went everywhere with us, we were on holiday and i came home tortoiseless, i was 15 yrs old and never got over it, i still think about him and where he is) anyway, i think that has been the fascination with the gorgeous creatures and its only now that i have been able to accomodate one properly.

sorry i didnt answer your question earlier, i just poured, into all my leo good, stuff, . ..... i have never seen him urinate really, once on the patio, on a sunny day, it just looked like liquid and to be honest i didnt have a close look at it. should i be inspecting? i must say tho that his substrate has been wet, on a few occasions, but noticed it more when he was in viv, before t.table. should i been checking his wee out?

If it's not all gritty then he is hydrated sounds to me as if he's drinking without you knowing! If he wasn't drinking it would be gritty and almost dry looking instead of creamy. Not very nice I know but has to be checked out if your worried I'm afraid
