Any idea what kind of Muds they were, and where did you see them?
They don't grow very big, about 4"-5", poor swimmers they tend to crawl around the bottom rooting around for food, like Musks but more so. They eat mainly snails, worms, general aquatic inverts in the wild. They need less water volume and depth than sliders, for instance, but more land, and they still bask so a UVB and basking lamp are required. They can be aggressive towards each other, especially males, so are best kept alone or be prepared to separate them at the first sign of fighting, they have very powerful jaws for their size and can take big chunks out of each other!

If they were African Mud Turtles that's rather different, I assumed they would be a North American species, there are quite a few African species, varying in size from around 4" to 18"!
