Smile Sulcata station

A great site for Salcuta information:

Sulcata Station - The best site on the web for sulcata tortoises!

Would be a good idea to refer people enquiring about Salcutas to the above link, they have an enormous Knowledge base and are more positive about this breed than some forum members.

it's not a matter of being 'positive' about the breed. I absolutely simply adore sulcata's. they really are one of my favourite tortoises. However where i currently live it wouldn't be fair to keep them. Yes i have a large garden but i do not have the acres they require.

Alot of people, go out buying them, thinking they won't get as big as they get or as my fool of a cousin said 'as they're tortoises they won't need much exercise'

It's not a matter of us being positive. Just because you were desuaded from breeding them it doesn't mean we don't love the species.quite the opposite in fact. It's because we love them that we think all future homes for them should be vetted

could not have said it better myself.

Generally it is people's abilitie to keep this species that people are negative about. A very hard species to keep properly.

no kiddin, maybe you should call this forum 'The Anti-People Forum'

having looked at other threads, there is definetly an anti-breeding tone to this forum and i can understand why this 'Andy B' member just plays with you all!

Very few members are 'anti-breeding' in fact quite the opposite, members are encouraged to buy from a breeder rather than a pet shop........you have obviously only read the Sulcata thread when you made that judgement.
Do you keep Sulcatas yourself? Or have you seen a fully grown Sulcata? Perhaps if you considered how people would care for these huge creatures correctly, you might understand where we are coming from
