He is a dealer - certainly not worthy of the term 'breeder' !!

Bloody heck, not this again,

You feed dogs cats and rodents complete mixes of either processed tinned food, or dried food.

A complete diet is fine and if i owned the companies that produced them i would sue you for libel.

(NB some foods contain excess protein which is bad for certain species. But it cannot be blamed on the producer of seller, it is buyers responsibility to ensure suitability.)

I hadn't even looked at the prices a 2 x 2 ft tort table for £79.99? :o i know it's a business but thats rather expensive, mine didn't cost a fraction of that to make

Also i wasn't slaggin him off for selling the food, i don't believe he'd feed his on that, he may do.it's just a quick way of making a buck as it were.

Also i always wondered n tams u may be able to clear this up for me. Would tort pellets be suitable for something like a red foot which requires some protein. (Note, i dont mean instead of a normal diet, but as like an extra to it)

Have you seen what pellets do to tortoises? Here's a link to show you a tortoise that has lived in a viv and fed on that rubbish:

Shelled Warriors :: View topic - Problems with life in a Viv, no hibernation and wrong diet!

It is sold by shops to make money, the shops are not going to say to people you tort needs only to be fed weeds and refuse a sale of a tub of that! Sadly people purchasing tortoises from these people turn to them for advise as 'think' they are knowledgeable in terms of the welfare of the tortoise.

I tell all customers who want tortoises to only feed weeds (depending on species of course) and all of our signs and information leaflets say it too.

that tort has sevral problems. The first and most noteable is MBD and calcium deficiancy. This would be due to incorrect lighting and supplimentation.
It is heart renching to see any animal in such a condition, let alone such a strong, and long lived animal.

But in hoesty i cannot see how you can blame this entirely on the viv and a "dry diet"

The animal has had years of no lighting, no calcium suppliment, no substrate, improper heating and countless other problems.

Had the animal been kept in a suitable vivarium (custom built) with a good gradient and substrate, proper heat and lighting, this tragidy wouldnt have happened.

There are lizards and snakes with more demanding requirements than torts RE UVB, ventialtion, space, and countless other things.

IF these can be kept in a vivarium then IMHO so can a tortoise.

As for dry food, it is a "complimentary" diet, rather than a complete diet. IT also contains totaly wrong ratios for the species. It is the owner at fault, not the company, or seller of the food.
