isn't it better to have a few healthy, good quality torts then lots of dehydrated, under nourished, half dead ones?

Yes, because it's not about the people's needs and what they want as a pet, it's about what's good for the tortoises. There are enough torts of a variety of species in the UK for sustainable breeding and good bloodlines.

Hi Andy,

Yes it would, i love owning my babes and i know i have been lucky to get them from a u.k breeder, but it wasn't that hard, i was fully prepared to drive the five our trip to own my torts in the right way, i also would fully except never owning a tort, if the only way to get one was an imported one, which in most cases this means taking them from the wild and anyway you slice it this is very WRONG!!!.

So, just to get this clear in my mind, the TPG (AKA the British tortoise breeders association) wants a ban on the carefully controlled import of tortoises from abroad. This is based on their claims of poor import conditions (despite IATA regulations) and poor health of the animals arriving (despite DEFRA's import controls) along with poor advice given by their competition (AKA pet shops) (Despite the new regulations in the Animal Welfare Act).
Of course the sudden lack of imported tortoises for sale in pet shops causing an increased demand for their members captive bred animals along with an increase in prices wouldn't of crossed their minds.

All seems good to me, where do I sign

Natrix
