Yesterday I brought 2 x 06 horsfield, Turbo & Scooby
 they are eating well, havent been in house as yet have prefered to bury themselves instead! only one thing Im totally horrified at is the subtrate I was told to buy, its the alfafa pellets  got a huge sack too. I have playsand (also keep hermit crabs) what else can I use with it... what top soil is it? Can I use hemp & sand & top soil mix? now completely hacked off & worried..please help...thanks xx

Top soil is just plain top soil, you can get it at any garden centre, B & Q stock it too. Use a 50/50 mix of soil/sand.......you can provide a sleeping hut with hemp in it, but soil is just as good. Did you buy these torts at a pet shop? Most imports do hide away, they are scared of humans as they aren't used to them  . CB torts are much more friendlier and settle in far quicker, but if yours are CB then they are perhaps just settling in. If not CB, then I would urge you to have a faecal sample checked at your tortoise vet for worms.

I know I didnt have to buy it but when someone who supposedly knows their stuff tells a newby thats its made for tortoises you kind of get the idea that its ok!! what else can it be used for? They are CB but I did phone a place in the week that sell imports near to me! Got some hemp ordered & off to B & Q now for top soil. thanks Phoebe.
