I use soil and sand and by what it says in the tt course i think you cant any better than that, mine bury themselves in it and it keeps them hydrated.

I've just seen this, wish I'd logged in earlier

These tortoise meetings where they want you to take your tortoise along are a really bad idea. Lots of tortoises in one room, lots of species, lots of people handling them, lots of cross contamination going on

I've been to some of these (didn't take torts though) and watched 'experienced' people pick an ibera up and pop it on the scales, then pass it one to someone else and pick a hermann up and pop it on the same scales. No hand washing, no cleaning of scales, no hygiene rituals at all. I hope this one wasn't like this, for the sake of your torts health !! Why do they want you to take your tortoise along??

On this site i notice they sell Hemp AND Hemcore. I got a bale of hemcore from scats but never used it because when i got it home and opened it , it was hard, large, pointed, sharp and nothing like what i thought hemp looked like.

Is the hemp they sell the PROPER soft stuff because i seem to be going round and round in circles trying to find a good supply of proper Hemp.
I do not want to purchase any to find out it isnt.
There doesnt seem to be a picture of it on their site.

Thankyou.

Hemp and Hemcore are basically the same..........I can't get hemp (auboise) here so I use Hemcore and haven't had any problems with it, I've been using it for years.
You might find when you first put it in the enclosure it has a slight smell, this is citronella, the manufactures add a tiny amount to keep flies away from it. Its completely safe and harmless and the smell will go away in a few days.
Hope this helps
