Question Powersun lamp problems.

I have been using the POWERSUN UV lamp for approx 4 weeks now.
Yesturday the bulb never came on and it looks like it has blown.
I rang the shop where i purchased it from & they said they would replace it. Unfortunately the shop is in Devon and i live in Berkshire, i am not going down to Devon until mid-october.

Surely this should have lasted alot longer !
How long should these bulbs last ? Being £50 to £70 a bulb, its alittle expensive.

I have the bulb on a timer to come on at 7am and off at 9pm.
I set it to these times because i thought that it normally gets light at 7 & gets dark at 9. Are these times ok ?

I have also found problems getting a replacement Powersun UV bulb. My local shops either did not sell them, had the wrong watts (mine is 100w) or sold out. I was told one could be ordered but that would have taken about 1 week. I suppose i should have had a spare - but because of the cost i never got round to it.

I have managed to get a 100w T-Rex Active UV heat bulb and was told this is the equivalent to the powersun bulb, but since putting it on it has been flickering slightly and even went out once then came back on. Is this bulb the same as the powersun ? I have since found a powersun on the internet and sent for it - but probably wont come until early next week.

Thanks.

oh, i forgot to say its for my Hermanns Tortoise - George.

I don't use them as I don't like not being able to control the temperature with a stat, but I would not be very happy at a bulb of that cost only lasting that long.

The T-Rex is a different bulb to the Powersun, and in my book a lot better. It is also normal for the T-Rex Active UV's to flicker a bit to start with, sometimes they will switch themselves off and on for a day or two
until they settle.

If you want a good UVB floodlamp with excellent customer support give the Mega-Rays a try next time. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction, quick delivery times (very often next day) and an excellent product. I have yet to find an T-Rex ActiveUV or Powersun cheaper than us as well.

Yes, in my opinion it is the better of the two (Powersun and T-Rex) and will be perfect.

I have both, but prefer the T-Rex, it has been much more reliable than the Powersun. I had 2 Powersuns 'pop' within weeks, they were replaced without any problems but I keep them as spares/emergencies and replaced them all with the T-Rex.

Hi,

I use powersun, but i looked into both powersun and T-Rex i couldn't see much between them so i went with powersun because they are easier to get hold of and the breeder i got my torts from uses them.
Now i know this is going to sound like a really daft question but, are you sure the bulb has blown? the reason i ask is that the bulb has an enternal thermistat and will switch off when it gets to hot and will not come on straight and can take up 20 mins before it will.

If you are having trouble getting hold of the bulbs, have you tried this place they deliver straight to the door and will replace if any problems;

Thanks, but i already know that the bulbs can switch off and then come back on after awhile. This bulb has most definately blown.

I have since found bulbs on the web, but not having a spare one, i needed a replacement straight away.

Make sure you get a refund though.........they are too expensive to just ditch and Powersun are aware of the problems with them, as are the outlets which sell them
