She is when shes in the garden! not so much inside. she has a twisted claw, which i believe nothing can be done about...she seems fine so i'm not too worried.

Hi Jazzy B Bunny,

The table looks a good start, the fun bit is jazzing it up and making it more interesting for your tort, which i'm sure you will be doing, as for the pellets you really should get rid of them i know you don't want to waste them, but it could end up doing more harm than good and costing you alot of money in the long run.
i had trouble getting hemp where i live, because the stables around me no longer use it, so i get it from this place and they deliver to the door, it does come in bale size, but that makes it cheaper and it lasts ages, so give them a go;

I dont always find fault.....Rachael (Mollbags) has a fabulous indoor enclosure for her tortoises, it full of interest and variety and I told her so. This one has a substrate which is extremely high in protein, which the owner knows but isn't really that bothered and nothing to keep its interest whatsoever.

If someone puts a picture up of their enclosure, members will comment.......good and not so good.

The picture must be deceiving then because that bulb looks very small and all the uvb/heat bulbs I have seen are much bigger than that. If that is a uvb bulb you need a bulb holder to direct the uvb onto the table....if you leave it like that the uvb is escaping all over the room and not concentrated on the table where you need it.

What do you mean by the pellets being 'used up' ? She will eat them if they are alfalfa. The pet trade may make them for tortoises but they aren't suitable..........sorry I just can't understand why you would use something unsuitable which will also be bad for their health. If you can't get hemp, why dont you use soil/sand mixture until you can get some?

I didn't comment on your indoor enclosure Andy and have no intention of doing so. This thread isn't about your enclosure.

Please ditch the alfalfa pellets, regardless of how much of the stuff you have left. Alfalfa is VERY high in protein and therefore totally unsuitable for a tortoise's digestion. This amount of protein will overload the poor tortoise's kidneys, causing possible stones and kidney failure long term.

Your tortoise is happy and healthy, let's keep it that way and this substrate will NOT do that.

People only want what is best for tortoises and that is why you are being advised to get rid of that stuff.
