Yeah it's the same.. Your tortoise is in the house isn't it? so just put ur central heating on auto so that if it gets to 10*C it'll kick on to heat it up a bit.thats all i do.

hang on did u say viv?? have you adapted the viv for the tortoises..ie removed the glass.put somethin opaque in it's place...added ventilation?? (humidity can get v high in vivs n it can be very dangerous for med tortoises like horsfields n hermanns)

most people will suggest that you do not provide the tortoises with heat of a night time if the tortoises are housed inside of a night time.

PS - you dont have to apologise for posting a newbie question you have every right to ask a question and it may come in handy for other newbies too!

HI'

yes at night i switch off the heat, like the others have said, but i have a thermistat with my central heating so i set it at night to kick in just in case the room temp drops below 10c, also viv is very bad for your tort, you should concider a tort table if you want to keep a happy healthy tort!

Mine don't have night time heat if in the house, and I don't have central heating! When it is really cold at night they will be fast asleep in the fridge so they will still be happy.

If you are really worried about them getting cold, if say you live in a cold house, I would suggest you buy a ceramic heater and set it on a dimming thermostat, that way it will only come on if it does get too cold.

Oh and please change from a viv to a tort table, torts need to be able to cool down as well as heat up!
