Hi All,

What does this mean for all Slovenian imports, i read on the Tortoise Trust site that Conservation Committee of the Slovenian
Herpetological Society, had said they had “no knowledge” of captive breeding program over there, which suggests that all of them are wild taken, even if a dealer has sold one with a captive bred cert! how will owners of these prove there case, or will DEFRA just except the ones with certs!

Here is the T.T. article i read;
Tortoise Trust Web - Illegal Imports

All these changes are good thing are they not, if they have been put in place to help stop the importing of torts!

I have 3 spur thigh tortoises all with paper work but.....

Shelly is my oldest one and is cb and brought via someone who got it from a uk breeder -DOES HE NEED A NEW CERT / LICENSE?

Acorn is one of my lil ones and is has a certificate but says country of origin is turkey but it also says on this cert that it is cb?????!!! As you can imagen this is confusing me - is acorn cb or wc?

Box has the same certif as Acorn but were purchased from different places!
-DO THEY NEED NEW CERTS / LICENSES?

Whether you think it is a good thing depends on whether you think it's a good thing that the Natural England suggestion for what people do if they can't get a license for their animal is, simply, to donate their DEAD animal to a museum.

For those of you who don't have paperwork on them, please read the EPS threads in the "Hobby Issues and Information" section of "General Herp Chat". They should explain the issues further.

Hi,

What i meant was its a good thing if it prevents further imports coming in to the U.K. as for the people already have imports, how on earth are they going to enforce the law anyway, because their are too many loop holes in the system, how are they going to trace all the people with torts and they would still have to go through a hole heap of red tape before they can come and take the tort away? its not as if someone is going to turn up at your door and take your tort!
I'm sorry for all those people out there worrying what may happen, but a line has to be drawn some where to stop this, which means alot of people could get hurt in the process but its the welfare of the torts thats the most important thing, and i know your going to say 'what about the ones they take away', but its the ones in the wild that they are trying to protect, that should be the most impotant thing!

I also think the whole section of this law needs to be re-done and made far harder on all those people ( dealers) who are breaking it!!!

So whats going to happen to peep's torties who have been rehomed from terrible states that came with no certs? Will these be taken away and put to sleep? If so its seriously a sick thing to do as peeps like me have saved torts from nr death, bad housing, diet etc as it already is, surely ending their lives becoz no certs came with them is WAYYYY out of depth.
