Default Routine!

should i let my tort have its morning bask before i take it outside, or just take it straight out outside.

I was also wandering at what time should the light be switched on and off?

7-7? 8-8?

I need answers, Thanks,

Jason

HI,

If it looks a bit of a dull start to the day, i would let them bask first and also depends on the age of the tort, i have very young hatchlings and could only put them out on warm days!

As for when to switch off, do it to suit you, as long as you are making sure they get the bulb over enough time in the day, it does not matter when you switch, the only time it does is when you start to wind down for hibernation!!

My light comes on at six in the morning. My babies surface at about seven. They then get their bath as soon as they are up for 20 mins. While they are in their bath I sort out their food and put in in the table. Once they are dried I put them back in and they motor it straight for the food. They know the score

As a guide I would always switch lights on after sunrise and before sunset. This simulates the natural light hours and allows for a sunrise and sunset instead of a sudden plunge from one to the other.
