species liek hermanns are supposed to be microchipped when they reach 10cm plastron length.

you're looking to get a horsfield..they dont legally require one.
people get them so if the tort is stolen it can be traced..price varies depending on vet. i'm not keen on it tho as the chip is the same size they use on cats n dogs

The chip can move around under the skin of the tort and can do serious damage.

Torts need to be chipped if you intend selling them or breeding from them (and wanting to sell the hatchlings).

I do not have any of mine chipped, I do not want to put them through it. As for the hatchlings I had this year - I gifted them to the TT and they became a new generation of TT rehomers.

This is a bit of a fallacy. They do not need to be chipped at 10cm unless you are going to resell at this size. If used for breeding then they do not need to be chipped until adult, and if not for sale or breeding then not at all

Which is what has been said lol. Only joking. Yours makes more sense lol. Why at 10cm?

I think 10cm may be to do with thefact that before this size the torts are to small for the chip??? i dunno.or maybe its because before this size they wouldn't be breeding anyways? I dunno. I just dont like the fact the chips are so large.would be good if they could somehow make a more rep n chelonian friendly one
