I'd be wary of info from wikepedia as anyone can add or remove info from there. It's not necessarily fact but what people perceive as such

it was mainly the pictures of the differnt species i was interested in, i'll do a draft and pm it to more experienced tortoise keepers to give it a once over for me and correct any information not right, i think a list of all species with pics and a brief description diet where from and if hibernation is required as well as cites info will be helpful to all i hope.
It just may take me a while as i work full time and there are so many species i have 30 so far is there more lol??????.

Well it is not, yes they ask you join but why not as long as they get the message agross, its not hard to join, it does not cost anything, so i don't see how those doors are closed, its just good PR to me and means they have people's full attention to get across other important facts!! which again helps the long suffering tort!!
If you have to go and register to see it,...its a hold...of sorts.
the same hold one likes to have by not having links to other forums on this one id have thought....good PR.
The time it takes to register is less time you have to act on the info you are after, for that reason I think its a bit off.
But theres notjing wrong with it..liek you say atleast you dont have to pay.
But having all the info in a more quickly accesible place liek RFUK is a great idea.

So let me get this right. The tortoise trust website is NOT a forum so does NOT compete directly with RFUK. You do NOT need to register on their site to read the info. It is more an information database. Does this mean that links to the TT are allowed or not? for get other forums for now I'm talking about the TT Site. I'm Confuzzled

ONLY links to forums are against the rules, links to websites, information, articles, and caresheets are absolutely fine.

LOL - I'm confuzzled too Ben and I think if there is a ban of links to sites such as this then people who work so hard to help people like the TT will just leave this site. That means the majority of people who give helpful info here. That will leave newcomers to this site using speculative info on keeping torts as before and allowing torts to suffer more initially. Any owner who generally cares is going to surf thte net for m ore info anyway and it soon becomes clear which sites are not worth visiting. Just unsubbed from a couple myself TBH
Banning links to sites such as TT is a bit like saying I am setting up such and such a site to help people with a serious illness and then banning links to other equally helpful sites. It would just be non productive to my mind.
I have a list of favourites of sites I visit each day and do not stay away from one because another is, to my mind, better. I soon delete the ones from the list that pee me off though<vbg>
Now you will be more confuzzled LOL

So has this section calmed down a bit now? There is a girl who lives near me that has just gone and got herself a turtle (not seen it, dont know what it is) but I would like to direct her to this forum. I cant imagine she has much knowledge of keeping these creatures (it seems quite complex), so it is quite urgent that she gets some advice...
