besides every answer seems to be go *here*
Its not really what the help section was for. If that was the idea you would click on the tortoise section and just get automatically redirected

The idea of the tortoise help section is so people can come HERE to get help and advice.
I only hope you post many links to this forum on that site so we can expect to see an influx of tortoise keepers coming here to help people out. |

Well... If you look on any other section on the forum, if someone says "go here <URL> and ask the question" It's classed as trying to get our members to go there, which i'm pretty sure on any big forum they would remove the post too.

HI,
But surely if there is no one on the forum that can help at the time but they can give a helpful link, so that person can get help, is far better than getting no help at all! I am a member on a lot of tortoise sites and i have found most of them don't mind links to other sites as long as the person gets help for their tort and at the end of the day, helping the torts is the most important thing! Also i have found when i have given out useful links, those people don't leave this site, infact they come back for more help! Forums are about help,in what ever form, not about idle chat because then it is no longer a forum but instead a chat room!! |

And we end up with everyone in the other sections just adding "go to my forum for better help/advice/etc." at the end of every thread. It's unfortunately a slippery slope, there has to be one rule for everyone, and I don't see as the tortoise section can break the rule that every other section has to keep - for the greater good of the whole forum. Of course any educational links, the tortoise trust, caresheets, articles.. all of those are welcome, the only rule is about linking to other forums, as people WILL use it for advertising (not saying tortoise people, but other people who run their own forums), and it's hard to have one rule for some, and a different rule for others. |

Sometimes a more comprehensive reply is called for than can be put in one email. A lot of what is said on lists is hearsay and guess work such as 'it shoudl be OK' or 'my granny did that and she had her tortoise for 30 years'. This sort of reply can be extremely dangerous and pounting a link to a site that contains researched info can avoid a huge argument ensuing. Helpful? |
