if all these things are so wrong about keeping/collecting torts, isn't it wrong for anyone to have them at all except for those trying to save a few. isn't the very fact that some people keep them in good conditions, justify things? i mean, if tort keeping and collecting in the wild is taboo...then isn't taboo for everyone?

Yes in an ideal world no animal would be taken from the wild, to feed peoples greed for profit, but it is not, so we have to do the next best thing, which is stop the ones taken from the wild and encourage people to by UK captive bred!!
Humans are a selfish breed and will always want things they shouldn't have, this really is the case when it comes to exotic pets, i bred Parrots to help stop the ones being taken from the wild, the law now is very good in protecting them!! But the laws are not tight enough yet to help torts, so in the mean time tort owners and breeders are trying to get the message across to people captive bred is best and in the case of buying in the UK, uk bred is best as some cb imports are suspect and my own feeling on importing is that it is cruel to any animal!!

I am a very proud owner of uk captive bred torts, just to let you know that i practice what i preach!!
