im sure its happy where it is,it beats being in a fish tank, and if it is the size of a dinner plate then it must be eating plenty of food.

I'll be the voice of dissent.

There are no native turtles in the UK. Therefore, what you've seen is an invasive species.

Ideally it should be caught and either homed with someone who keeps them or moved to a place where it will not destroy native wildlife.

Yes, I agree. Someone found one in a little pond in a park by the seaside up here a couple of years ago and took it to the local Blue Reef. Better than leaving it I think.

There are lots of them in most of the London parks, some of them are actually put there deliberately by the park wardens. One lake near me has reputedly the largest population in the UK, I'm not sure about that but there are quite a few in there, and they were all put there by the wardens who have caught them in other parks in the borough.

Which park is it that you saw this one?

Many of these species live in UK lakes now. They will grow but they will not reproduce, so not much of a threat as eventually they will die of old age.

Having said that, with temps increasing year on year, it won't be long before they are able to reproduce successfully.. and they will evolve to accomodiate the environment.

My heart says to leave it, my head says to move it..
