No - no good whatsoever. Reptile 'specialists' sell them but I would save your money and just try to replicate nature which has a none red sun Buy a temporary spot bulb from your supermarket, much cheaper. You must have uvb though no matter how temporary the heat lamp is.

do you just mean a red reflector spot lamp? rather than an infra-red light ? Like they sell in the rep shops? If so those are fine..just coloured spot lamps. The torts are clever enough to know where to get their heat from. As mentioned UVB is necessary tho

Yes they will always find the heat source, but for tortoises in wind down mode for hibernation this can induce sleeping under the lamps which can be detrimental to their health. Bright light stimulates a tortoises natural instincts, whereas coloured bulbs can cause confusion resulting in health problems in my experience

i got a red bulb, makes heat so its fine by me. also got a uv tube attached to it

Well if it's alright by you then it must be fine eh Andy! Ever wondered if it is right for your torts? After all pellets are fine for many keepers - kills torts though eh! Sorry have to say that after months of posting you have not made many sensible remarks yet or ones that tie in from week to week. Think I need a holiday!
