Default New Indian Star

Hi all, Im a new member and very soon will be getting an Indian Star juvenile. I think I have covered every aspect of keeping him but if anyone has one, or is able to pass on any tips, they will be more than welcome. I soon hope to be able to contribute after any lessons I learn !.

Blondesarah keeps these so she would probably be the best person to advise you. They are a very fragile species from what I've read, very prone to RNS etc. Temps will need to be kept very constant and NO drafts should be allowed at all. They should only go outside when it's nice and hot (not often here). Good luck!

Hiya i have 3 stars.
VERY delicate. I do not put mine outside as the change in temperature and surrounding sets of RNS. They hide alot when young.
I hardly touch mine only to bath once a day then the rest they are hidden.
There temps must be quite high 20-25 in cool spots and 32c in hot spots. I use a trex bulb with mine.
I also feed mine twise a day but keep an eye on weight gain 2-4g a month is good.
You should also make sure that they are getting enough vitamins and calcium so their shell domes.

Hi i keep stars. Loads of info to give but my no1 piece of knowledge would be to keep them in a viv unless you have a tropical tort house. Look at the facts they are prone to rns this is because most peeps keep them on tables which is good for your meds but the stars require a higher ambient temp which is above room temp. But provide xtra vents in it to keep humidity down these should be placed near the top of the viv. Sorry to say blonde sarah agree with your statement on vivs are slow cookers for most torts but you are not completely right it is species specific. Please tell me how a red foot can be kept at ideal temp and humidity on a table??

Just to say a little more very shy torts as sarah said but you should see most activity during early morning and late afternoon-evening as they display in the wild
