feed enough weeds to cover the shell in like a leafy jacket. no more, and no less..that should keep the weight gain slow and steady.

cant say how many dandelions as the leaves themselves are different sizes, also variety is the spice of life

I go on weight and time. Enough to feed in a hour and i weight my tortoises quite alot 2-4g is good weight gain for babies. More weight gain for sub adults.

I agree with Sarah on this one. Although the "leafy jacket" idea is a good guide, it didn't work for me - still gained a gram or so more than I would have liked. My advice would be to monitor their weight and aim for 2-4g per month and adjust accordingly

It also depends on species, i feed my inidiand stars twise a day and they only gain 2-3g a month. Also i was feeding my tunisians once a day and they were loosing weight! which was a huge shock so now they get fed twise a day and growth is smooth.

Dehydration also plays a huge part in pyramiding so bath small tortoises every day or every other. Always make sure they have water. I always place my indian stars in their water bowl.

UVB is very important also. Thats why i use trex bulbs high UVB.

It's impossible to say what is the right amount physically, but it is what produces a couple of grams a month increase in weight, so the best tool is some good digital scales

This has been already set bove but i know you like things to be clear so..

for the first few weeks feed enough to cover the shell in a leafy jacket.

Check how much weight has been put on.

by these measurements you can adjust the amount of food given.
