I sent the missus to buy some fish for my newly acquired aquarium and she came back with 2 turtles and a lack of knowledge, how much heat do they require and is an aquarium filter on its side good enough or do i need a new filter?????

this is in the wrong section so really need to me moved, you'll have alot more replies posting in the shelled section.

You will need a bigger filter i belive as they make alot of mess. They also get big depending on what species you have, so you will need a large tnak as well.

Yes it is in the wrong section, and unfortunately an internal filter on it's side is no use at all, only an external filter has the neccessary capacity to deal effectively with turt waste. It needs to be rated for at least 2 or 3 times the water volume, which should be a minimum 40 litres per inch SCL.

If they are very young hatchlings they need a water heater to raise the temp to the mid-20°Cs, they also need an incandescent lamp for the basking spot which should be around 32-35°C, and a UVB lamp of at least 5% output, preferably more.
