Default tortoise help

Hi,
My sister is thinking of getting a horsefield tortoise, can you tell me what the best set up would be please?

horsfields dont tend to do too well indoors as they like burrowing..tho there are ways around this. I initially put newspaper under the substrate and trays to help clean it out more easily..however the tortoises burrow under that as well now, even with their deep substrate on top lol

a 4ft x 4ft tortoise table minimum size is required for one tort. vivs are no good as torts get stressed by glass n can't understand that they cannot get through it.

you'll need a uvb strip of 10.0 n a spot lamp, or a combined bulb such as a t-rex,powersun or megaray.


a nice plentiful supply of weeds available.


if u look at the care sheet for med tortoises at the top of the shelled section that should explain most things.

Tortoise Tables <<< cheap tortoise tables..those ones are great as u can take the trays outside if u wish. soil/sand can be a little heavy for them tho, so if u just sink in trays with that in, n have the bulk of the substrate as hemp that works well
