Hi!
im new and Ive been reading everyones threads for a while now, gradually picking up information so i can care for my tortoise the best when i get 1! I was dead set on getting a hermans but then someone said have i thought of the marginated tortoise? i havent really heard much about this sort and was just wondering if they are like the hermans and good for a first tortise? Or should i stick with the hermans? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks ![]() |

Well I am probably not the best person to answer this because I own Margies myself so I have a soft spot for them. I also looked after some baby hermans of the same age for a week or so before they went to their new homes. The care for both is identical although the Margies will end up a bit bigger than a hermans. The only real difference I noticed when I had both species was that the Margies seemed to be a lot more lively! They just seemed much more active and fast too! Don't get me wrong the Hermans were very active too but once the Margies get excited there is no stopping them! Both of my hatchlings walk straight up to me when I go and see them and one of them loves his head being tickled. He walks straight up, stands as tall as he can go and pokes his head as far as he can... he loves it! I am told Margies are very hardy... I've had no major probs with mine. I should probably add that these are my first torts. HTH
