I'm sorry but the temp advise was not obtained from TortoiseTrust.
Yes the temps in Africa do reach over 32 but you will not find torts basking at those temps, they will be sheltering. Over 34 and you are talking temps above which life is sustained ( obtained from TortoiseTrust).
Talk to who, sorry?

It shuold really be what works for the tortoises not the owner. This is where a lot of people run into problems - you have to think tortoise, not human

Of course it only comes on if it needs to.

My Hermann's are a different matter of course, and other than their basking light and UV they don't have any other heat.... But Leo's need it so Sulcata's must too.

Can I ask you a question please?
If using a ceramic heater, where do your tortoises sleep, as in out in the open or dug away in a hide?

I use ceramics for my torts as the long wave infra red given off is absorbed by the tort. And if using a ceramic you should defo use a thermostat especially with larger bulbs, as a 250w will bake a potato if not controlled so imagine what it could do to not just the tort but anything else in close proximity. I have a quote somewhere from the tortoise trust stating that ceramics are long lasting and they had some that had been in use for many years, so they must use them.
