Default Freaked out tortoise

I experienced first hand the other day how stressed a tort can get if they are in an enclosure with glass/see through sides. I normally bathe mine in a ceramic dish but it wasn't available so I used an old see through plastic lunch box. One of my torts was trying to get out by walking trough the side of it so I whipped him out after a couple of minutes, dried him off and put him back in his table. The poor little fella thought he couldn't walk forwards any more and would only walk backwards! It might sound amusing to some but he was obviously in a bit of a state! He sorted himself out once I put a sweety (dandelion flower) in front of him but it did make me realise just how stressed out torts get if kept in conditions where they can see through the walls. I won't be making the same mistake twice! Over and out,

Ben

and that was just for a couple of minutes in the bath. Imagine what it must be like for a tortoise living like this full time!

one of the local rep shops near here has torts for sale..

they don't even know what species they're selling for crying out loud, all are in vivs, apart from an indian star which was in a large sandwich tub in a viv with a chamelion.no temperature gradiant etc.i was appalled n reported them immediately.

this shop also boards for people when they go away on holiday, how any responsible pet owner can leave them there is beyond me.

There was a , and I quote 'rescue' tort with horrific pyramiding, an overgrown beak, nails disfigured, and all because it was constantly trying to get through the glass. was heartbreaking
