but yes i agree tortoises should be kept outside. The only reason some horses aren't able to is mans greed for specific needs/uses..thus breeding finer breeds etc. Tortoises should be left as nature intended. Walking little dustbins (given half a chance)full of character

Ah yes but then we get to the topic of 'If you cannot give optimum requirements should they be kept in this country?' same as torts. I know I would not. I do not have contact with horses any more as I cannot afford such luxuries nowadays, but when I did I was fully aware of the problems of turning a horse out after winter onto new grass so there was always rough grazing available - moorland type grassland etc Syabling a horse completely over winter and then turning onto grass to suit us is always a disaster waiting to happen IMHO. I would no more accept the various problems associated with horses being kept in small areas than I would any animal
