yeah i don't use dimmer stats, no need. if you vary the height of the bulb to get the perfect basking temp it works fine. not like a snake that can get higher up n get nearby. Also i heard the flickering of the lights can stress torts?

free up a stat mate u know it makes sense

You'll soon know how much is enough.

and one last thing...is that just soil or is it mixed with play sand?

V.Nice set-up

Will have to get a set of moe accurate scales to measure his weight gain.

Leafy jacket sounds like he will not be getting much ofood at all?

It is just soil in tjat pick, but a mix (60/40) now.... i read to do this on here, but dont really know the reason for doing it.

The leafy jacket may not feel like you're feeding much but with mine i've found it works best.you're aiming for 2-4g weight gain a month...if with the leafy jacket you're not getting that by all means up the food..but you dont want anymore weight gain than that, as rapid growth can cause pyramiding of the shell.

tortoises live to such long ages because they grow very slowly using up very little energy.

and a leafy jacket might not sound like much but imagine how many weeds you'd get if someone covered you in a leafy jacket!

so what might not be alot to you could be alot to the tortoise

yeah its

top soil 60%

play sand 40%

the reason for this is...I dont know. I think its because its more like their natural habitat and it drain better or something.
