The new enclosure for indoors is ordered and been looking at lighting instead of 2 units like now am thinking of getting a combined heat and uv bulb i have a metal fitting and reflector for up to 250w but not sure which bulb been looking at the powersun and megarays is their any difference or are they just different brands that do the same thing. Does anyone else have anything different they can recommend.

orchard hay mixes are suitable

avoid hays that have prickly seed heads tho. Also avoid hay such as alfalfa as the protein content is much to high.

where on earth can you get all that from !!!!

More seeds lol my house is presently full of pots of tortoise grass seeds and 2 other tortoise mixes I had off sarah. The tortoises new enclosure arrived today I have built the house section but have not finished the run yet but by tonight it will be transfered. As for diet seems happy enough on the weeds and grasses I am currently giving and will start to introduce new ones as they grow but guess that could be some time yet. Still got plenty of weeds in the garden so hopefully not too much ice and snow to kill them all off. Thanks again all for advice over past couple of weeks. I am also waiting for my megaray 100w that should stop me needing 2 separate lights I already have a ceramic bulb holder and reflector that were spare. Will try and put some pics on when all completed.

Default Sulcata Accommodation

The only way to accommodate Sulcata's once they get big is outside. Trust me, you don't want an adult one using your house as a toilet. They are also STRONG. If they want to go somewhere, they will find a way.

This is my outside shed that mine has free access to come and go from during the day. It is 8ft by 16ft.

You are right, security is a problem. Insurance is very expensive and they won't pay out for a stolen tortoise that was taken from outside accommodation.

The only real way is alarms and CCTV. Not overly cheap, but what price do you put on your animals?

Also, be prepared for the heating costs. When it is minus 4 outside it costs a few pennies to keep little Africa warm inside.

Yeah I know I have all this to come and have planned and allowed for it. My insurance I am with are quite good but would speak to them and get documents covering whats covered and whats not before making a final decision on the security measures etc but got a couple of years before that yet. Looks a nice set up you got.
