Hmmm... that sounds a bit sad cos they were very popular. Having said that mine were found dumped by a railway line!

she's offline so won't have seen the question...

in reality si, why would torts be bred in germany to send over here, they wouldn't make any money. they're not captive bred imports, simply put.

i'm sure when she is on tomorrow you will get answers.

Sue has alot of rescues off the way i understand it. I know alot of breeders and no i dont include sue in this, have former rescues/rehomes that they use for breeding.not sure if this is the case with Sue tho

No offence but i first posted at 11.31pm.
I was asking some serious questions! all i got back was basically 'F*** you lot i'm off' after my question was asked. The only other answer was basically all the tortoises died!

alot of torts from the 80's would have died to incorrect husbandry, that in itself is true enough. i imagine older torts are either in breeding programmes or just kept as pets..i've got tortoises it doesnt mean i intend to breed from them.

the point is alot of the older torts are either life long pets,in breeding programmes/zoo's..the 6-8 year olds u get in shops are imports. If you examined some of them yourself i'm sure you could make up an informed judgement of whether they are wild caught or not..based on behaviour and appearance

Hey ..... a reasonable reply without too much sarcasm!
I am genuinely interested as you may have read i used to have a few tortoises (20 yrs ago).
I honestly wondered about the lack of older tort's; also i wondered about the few that are still about; obviously imports. which makes it a case of ..... why can you and i cant kinda scenario! .... do you know what i mean???

like i said earlier i think the older torts are rehomes..theres a difference in rehoming a tort that was imported(no money passes hands) and buying a tort directly from a shop that is imported thus feeding the trade. if you get me? So i wouldnt say its a 'do as i say not as i do'situation at all
