Thanks for advice..my Dad has build the outdoor enclosure which is already set up, facilities for food and hibernation have already been sorted

It's just the tort for me now! Also (can't remmeber who said about saving for a year..) but me too! I have been saving up about the same time and spent months of researching and getting things together.

Hopefully i'll find a tort soon which will make all the effort worthwhile!

sorry but I have just come across this forum and I have to say that this anti pet shop bias is a disgrace. Just buy UK captive bred? what rubbish I once tried to buy from a breeder and she wanted to come around and inspect my house! what a nutter so i told her to get lost its a reptile not a dog for Gods sake. I buy from pet shops. I dont care where they have come from as long as they are healthy and I am not breaking the law. The government and CITES can sort out the conservation and all that not me. IF you want a tortoise or any other reptile go to a PET SHOP they are the experts because

A they are inspected

B their profits depend on selling healthy animals and depend on people coming back spending their money.

I await the explosion of animal rights nut cases

Clive

Non of the pet shops I have been in are experts in fact 2 of them ask my advice and opinions and not just on tortoises either.I sex all their baby rabbits for them and allsorts of things.I had to tell 1 of the shops yesterday that their terrapins needed a heat bulb and a uv.They were just in a tank of water with a ramp nothing else. They all was on the bottom of the tank looking half dead.Even though they need profit doesnt mean they are experts!

its a reptile not a dog? and what makes you think that they don't deserve equal amounts of care, attention and understanding.

I won't comment further as simply put you're after a rise out of us, but i will say that in my opinion your attitude sucks. It's people like you(if you're telling the truth and not just trying to cause trouble)that feed the Anti's

I live in London and theres not one pet I know that looks after their tortoises correctly.

The tortoises are kept in vivs with no UVB fed pellets and salads and sold at rip-off prices.
