Default Hermann Breeders in Devon-do they exist!?

Hello,

I am looking at buying a tortoise. After many months of research I have decided on a Western Hermanns tortoise that is at least 7 years old as the tortoise will be living in a large outside enclosure all year round. The enclosure will replicate a natural habitat with a “house” section that will be covered with a solid roof.

I’ve recently come across this website and thought about the possibility of re-homing a tortoise. Despite looking around for the past few weeks I can’t seem to find anyone in my area: Plymouth, Devon who is either a tortoise breeder or an organisation that needs a tortoise re-homing! Being a university student the re-homing option suits me better financially and I know I will be helping a tortoise in need!

The decision of accommodating a tortoise has not been taken lightly and is something that I am very enthusiastic about. I will be home all year round as I don’t go on holiday and my university is local to me so I live in the same house all year round.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

PS. I have seen a tortoise from a pet shop, who is a real breeder (i've checked the certifcates) He has said £358 for a 6/7 year old western hermanns-is this about right?

This is expensve then? I know that the older they are the more expensive they are. Do you know anyone/any place in my area who also sell them/need a new home.

I believe they breed tortoises at the tortoise garden in cornwall if that isn't to far from you. Just google it and you'll find their site.

At this age they will NOT be captive bred and certainly not UK bred.
