Default Hibernation

Hi guys and girls

Our tortoise doesn't seem to be lossing weight during hibernation. he has been in since the 15 of december. any idea's why this is?

did you make sure when you wound him down for hibernation that he had an empty belly..ie no food n heat left on initially to digest the food?

if you've done all this and given him bath s leading up to hibernation it should be ok. Just do weekly weigh ins, they should lose no more than 1% of their total body mass per month when in hibernation. often when they first go into hibernation they'll drop more than this..but a few weeks down the line will steady out. obviously your lil un is being awkward

I wouldn't worry tho hun, just make sure you're keeping a close eye on him. (Make sure you're checking him daily to make sure his cloacal area is clean and that he hasnt passed any urates or faeces)
