we've had them 14 months now, and again took advice that there was no need to hibnate them provided the temp and light was correct kept in the tank. I was going to see how it went this year and let them sleep next winter.

hmm getting on a bit now to hibernate them. but in future providing they're healthy they really should be hibernated. In the wild horsfields only eat for roughly 3 months of the year.and in captivity they're very prone to rapid weight gain due to over feeding. Hibernation helps to slow this somewhat.

Also as a guide they should be putting on about 2-5g weight a month. If they're putting on alot more than this then i suggest cutting portions down.

At the top of the shelled section you'll see a caresheet called 'the care of med tortoises'. Follow that and you wan't be go far wrong.

It has al the information on diet, housing, lighting etc. If theres something you still want to know thats not on the caresheet then just stick up a thread and the people here can help you

can i just say, i love it when people give loadsa advice on rf:uk, its really impresses me! im thinking of doing the tt course for torts and turts!!

yeah im definately gune sign up soon, really interested in it! and like you say, even if i never use/need some of the info it doesnt matter cos im interested in it! i may be giving my own advice out soon!

can't say i checked i'm afraid hun, can't see their being a minimum age.
