jarlath, eating aside a moment. seems as you got the tort only at xmas, are u giving it the correct heat/lighting/uvb exposure etc conditions? have you looked up about the requirements for a leapord tort?

if you go here Tortoise Trust Web - Start Page - and use the 'site search' and type in leopard alot of articles will come up which should answer your questions. sorry to be brief i'm off out, will try to add more tomorrow

yes i am providing the correct heating ,lighting and uvb exposure i am also providing a heat mat for night and adequate space for the tortoise to live in, if you can please answer my original question that would help.

just a quick note you say a heat mat for night..please remove the heat mat, they're terrible for tortoises, can cause burns,rapid dehydration (leading to eventual kidney failure) they're good for snakes buit not for torts i'm afraid.

is the tortoise in the house? If so just have your heating set so at X degrees it'll kick in..mines at 10 as i keep horsfields which can endure quite low temps

katie i think she means she has the heat mat stuck to the side to have a background temperature on a night. i hope this is what she mean lol

still not suitable for tortoises..this is a case where i'd recommend ceramics at night iff they're in a cold outhouse/shed/house

If the mat is on a thermostate and not in direct contact with the tortoise there is no difference to using one compared to a ceramic heater
